Discussion:
Gonzaga is overranked, right?

The reason that the WCC cannot challenge Gonzaga this year is not
because teams like St. Mary's are appreciably worse, but because
Gonzaga is significantly better than normal.
I am not convinced of that. My Illinois came to their house and
beat them, and that isn't too good a sign.
I've never seen Gonzaga with such high ratings in Pomeroy, LRMC, or
Sagarin. And Gonzaga has beaten teams of significance - they beat
all three of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Kansas State. And their
wins over OK and K-State weren't particularly close.
If their guards haven't gotten it together, and their weakness has
been covered up by poor competition, then a tough 16 seed with a
couple of good guards could give us our first 16/1 upset. Seriously.

Do they play basketball in the West?

I have bet every well seeded West cost team for champ in a pool since
2000, on the theory that they will be underbet here in East coast
pools. They have never won.

Stanford. Oh, wait, you're talking about men's basketball, aren't
you.

UC-Davis, albeit in 1999. Oh, wait, you're talking about Division 1,
aren't you?

(Okay, to be fair, you did say that you bet on these teams, and I have
never seen a futures line for the women's or Division 2 tournaments.)

Define "west coast team" - does it include, say, Arizona?

The last team from what is now the West Coast Conference to win was
Southern Florida...wait, what? "USF" stood for "University of San
Francisco" back then?

Speaking of Gonzaga...has anybody considered the possibility of
Gonzaga tanking the WCC championship game, knowing it will get into
the tournament anyway, so it can pick up some extra tournament money
from having a second team from the conference make it?

The last one to break my heart was San Diego State, 2011 2-seed.

No one has considered that possibility.
