Too bad that this series is going to get blown all to hell just
as it was getting good and competitive.

Wisconsin disappoints, Purdue don't. The rest are about as you might
expect...don't know quite how to score the Maryland-Northwestern game.

Why is it more moral for a federal bureaucrat in a state-supplied SUV to
shut down an offshore oil rig on grounds that it is too dangerous for
the environment than for a private individual to risk his own capital to
find some sort of new fuel to power his government's SUV fleet?

It's the only way you'll get us to play Maryland again! I'm hoping
they keep doing it. It is a great schtick.

I was at that Wisconsin game. Not only are Bo's teams generally
boring to watch, his end of game "coaching" can be terrible. Last
night was a typical example of that. And throughout my year's, I have
never seen a coach misuse young talent like he does. Sam Dekker is
the best offensive player on the floor, and he runs NOTHING other than
that damn swing "offense." No attempt to mold a game plan around the
players he has on the floor. Why any player with an offensive game
would want to play for Bo Ryan is beyond me.

I think that people are starting to learn his schtick, and once you
learn to attack it you can beat it. Move the ball and then drive
on their passing-lane attacks and you can light them up pretty good.

Sam Dekker might be the best, natural offensive player to come out of
Wisconsin since...well...in about 20 years. Bo was on him early and
he really didn't consider going elsewhere.

And then there's this...

That was a fun game to watch - as was the Div 1 final.

Bosketball - where offense goes to die. They'll make it to the Sweet
16 again almost certainly - and flame out there.

I'm not sure they make the S16 this year.

BTW, the student section was only 2/3 full. And there were empty
seats everywhere. And this was the best non-conference home game of
the year.

Bo's methodical style is far from fun to watch, but he generally gets
enough wins every season to have everyone marveling about how much he
gets out of so little talent. The fact that Wisconsin's playing style
might repulse potential recruits with exceptional offensive abilities
doesn't seem to get mentioned very often.

On a somewhat related note, Illinois' Bruce Weber (may he coach in
peace) initially impressed me with his "disciplined" approach, until it
became clear that he was also just being methodical, reigning in his
players (and subsequently their enthusiasm) at every opportunity, never
considering that a "one-size-fits-all" approach often does more harm
than good.

It's way to early to judge how well John Groce will do in the long run,
but it sure is nice to see the more fluid play he promotes/allows in his
players. And I have to think it's a lot more fun for them, too.

Are you asking why a player would want to play in a system where his teammates
rarely turn the ball over or take a bad shot? Are you asking why a player
would want to play in a system where if you pass the ball to a teammate, then
there's a decent chance that you're going to have the ball passed back to you?
You should try watching some truly dysfunctional college offenses. There's
several of them out there.

Wisconsin has been a very good offensive team under Bo Ryan. Slow pace is not
the same as bad offence. Maybe it's boring to watch, but it's been effective
over the years.

I hope so, but lately Duke has a history lately of peaking early.
Some of that has been injuries. Louisville was missing their best
big and Kentucky had been playing together for a month.

Well, that's why they play the games. It ain't over till the fat
lady farts. Deja vu all over again.

The ACC is 10-3-1. If we get another 38 consecutive ties, the
ACC will implode.

So I predict the demise of the ACC in 2040. I wonder if usenet
will last that long.

What the hell has happened to Wake? We Nebraska fans were just hoping to not suck too bad this bouncyball season, but the
Huskers
lose to Kent and turn around an beat Wake. I am frightend and confewsd.
Wake has been down the past 2-3 years. As in lucky to get
a few conference wins.
<
<Wake has never recovered from Skip Prosser's death, IMO.

You are correct. His replacement flopped (mostly recruiting-wise, IMO)
and the latest coach is still rebuilding. I've stopped following recruiting
and off season stuff, so I have no idea what direction, if any, Wake is
heading.
